BY ROAD
Mumbai to Dasturi Car park is two and half hours by road. The car park is 4.5 kms away from the hotel. You have to pay for parking and for a ticket to enter Matheran Reserve Forest.
BY TRAIN
You can take the Mumbai-Pune express trains to Neral Junction (check the schedule as not all of them stop at Neral). You can then take the 107 year old heritage Toy train from Dasturi car park to Matheran station. Then you are 10 mn walk away from the hotel.
The timings of the toy train from Aman Lodge/ Dasturi (car park) to Matheran and back are as follows. The ticket counter opens 45 minutes prior to departure (*).

The Neral Matheran Shuttle has also started operating and runs from Neral to Matheran at 06:30 am and from Matheran to Neral at 3:30 pm. However, the schedule has to be checked with Railway information before planning your trip.
The following persons would be familiar to our patrons and would be a great help to those visiting Matheran for the first time, or you can do some good old-fashioned haggling at Dasturi. The adage that everything can be negotiated, does work in Matheran too!!!
Horses and Ponies transfer from Dasturi or Matheran Railway Station to Dune Barr House
Hemant can organise horses and ponies for the transfer from Dasturi or from Matheran Railway station to Dune Barr House. You can also book rides for sightseeing trips with Hemant on 09423093415 or 07507820494. Hemant can also arrange reasonably priced accommodation for the driver of your vehicle in Matheran, if required.
Rickshaws and Porters for transfers from Dasturi or from Matheran Railway station to Dune Barr House
Ganpat will be able to assist you with booking Rickshaws and Porters for transfers from Dasturi or from Matheran Railway station to Barr House. You can also book rickshaws for sightseeing trips with Ganpat (09273611997/08390670136). Though a lot of people get upset by the notion of a rickshaw powered by “manpower”, please do note that a rickshaw is propelled by a team of 3 people. Also, it provides livelihood for the locals and is a good option when traveling with the aged or very young.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND WIFI:
Our BSNL lines very often don’t work since the underground cables are frequently clipped by the horseshoes and where ever it is above the ground, monkeys tend to make quick work of them. Vodafone and Jio have reasonably good connectivity in the resort premises, though Vodafone tends to be erratic at times. Due to the same reasons, we don’t have wi-fi available in the resort. Due to the limited connectivity we currently don’t have credit card swipe facility at the resort, so please do remember to carry cash to settle the extra bills.
WHAT TO BRING:
Short pants, short-sleeved shirts, hats, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, tennis shoes, torches and swimwear.
WEATHER
Located at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level, Matheran enjoys a cool and pleasant climate throughout the year. So, the hill station receives tourists all round the calendar.
Matheran in Summer (March – June) Matheran experiences moderate climate in summer though the maximum temperature may reach around 35 degrees Celsius in June-July. Thus, Matheran is a favourable destination for trekking in summers.
Matheran in Monsoon (July – September) Matheran receives high rainfall in the months of July-August. The rains restore the hills to its natural shade and add life to its seasonal waterfalls. However, the rains do not allow any adventure activities in this season.
Matheran in Winter (October – February) Though the winter temperature in Matheran can drop as low as 10 degrees Celsius, the overall weather, equipped with warm days and chilly nights, is quite enjoyable which attracts the maximum number of tourists in this season. This is also the perfect season for adventurers.
