Matara Town Sight Seeing

Matara Town

Star Fort: the date of construction, 1765, is embossed over the main gate with the company insignia of the Dutch era. A small museum with antics and photos of Matara is to be visited as well.

Matara Fort

Built in 1560 by the Portuguese, it is located on the land tongues between the green lagoon and the ocean. It house the local administration activity.

The Local Market

Every Wednesdays and Sundays. Exotic fruits, vegetables, fish stall…Enjoy the colors and the flavours. Matara seems at first sight ordinary city, but if you take time you will discover a charming life style.

Dondra Light House

Impressive Dondra Light House

Just 7 kilometers away from hotel, discover the majectic and historical Dondra light house. It marks the last landfall before Antarctica.
You may also visit the Dondra buddhist and Hindu temple at the same time as well as Weherahena temple with a 34 meter sitting Buddha.

Mulkirigala Rock Temple

Mulkirigala Rock Temple

Nestled in a rain forest on a rocky peek, discover several old sleeping buddhas (12 meters) and old cave paintings. Also called mini Sigiriya as you have to climb (a little) !! Visit from the hotel is a 5 hours tour. From 1 to 8 persons for Lkr 8.000 by Van. Entrance fees not included, but it’s usely free.

Galle Fort, A Must Visit

Galle Fort

Considered the best preserved fort in South Asia. With 14 massive bastions, a grid system of streets, original Dutch bungalows, nice architecture, Galle is worth a day visit and is a must do. You can also shop and dine there.
